MediaOne Continues Support for Ethnic Programs With Sponsorship of the 3rd Annual Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival.

LOS ANGELES--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Sept. 29, 1999--

As Top Sponsor, MediaOne Advocates Diversity in Cinema

During Hispanic Heritage Month

In an effort to continue support for ethnic programs and communities nationwide, cable and Broadband service provider MediaOne presented the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) with $100,000 as the event's chief sponsor, announced Teresa Elder, MediaOne Senior Vice President - Western Region.

The company pledged a cash contribution along with cable promotional ad spots on MediaOne channels to support LALIFF's mission for cultural and artistic diversity in film. The newly renovated Egyptian Theatre at 6712 Hollywood Blvd. will host the festival for the first time from Oct. 1 through 10.

This sponsorship is part of a year-round campaign to encourage interaction between cultural and ethnic groups, according to Elder. MediaOne is committed to improving ethnic relations between cultures through the support and development of diverse programs and communities.

Sponsorship of events like the Latino Film Festival during Hispanic Heritage Month brings people of various backgrounds and ethnicities together in appreciation of cultural diversity.

MediaOne is an original sponsor of the Latino Film Festival, now in its third year. Last year, the festival grew from 5,000 attendees to over 17,000. LALIFF anticipates even greater support from moviegoers this year for Latino filmmakers' works from Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and the United States.

"MediaOne is really helping to bring us into the mainstream," said Alan Noel Vega, General Manager for LALIFF. "Their relationship with LALIFF is essential for our growth. With this kind of generous support, we know our festival really can make an important impact in the community and in Hollywood."

"Diversity is our strength and this event directly encourages it," said actor and festival director Edward James Olmos. "MediaOne has been with us from the beginning supporting diversity, but this year they've really outdone themselves. Their backing directly impacts this festival's success."

"We're delighted to assist LALIFF in raising awareness for the Latino film experience," said Elder. "But this is about more than just the promotion of Latino films. It is about elevating the Latino culture and promoting diversity in cinema, one of our most popular and treasured art forms."
