Qld: Lucky escape from five-hour fishing ordeal

BRISBANE, Feb 12 AAP - Two fishermen who had clung to their upturned boat for morethan five hours amid treacherous conditions in Moreton Bay were rescued overnight by thecrew of a trawler.

The pair contacted a friend by mobile phone at 10pm (AEST) to say they were in trouble,before the phone connection dropped out.

An air and sea search was immediately mounted between St Helena Island and Mud Island,east of Brisbane, while a strong wind whipped up two metre seas.

Water police said the men were extremely lucky to be spotted by the crew of a fishingtrawler at around 3.30am today (AEST) as they hung onto their boat's hull.

The trawler carried the fishermen to a waiting ambulance and they were treated forexposure and exhaustion at 5.30am (AEST).

Police said the pair were recuperating at home and were too tired to speak to media this morning.
