Vic: Melb postal workers protest over 'no chair' ban
Australia Post counter workers have protested in Melbourne over a ban on staff sittingdown while serving customers.
Communications Workers Union Victorian branch secretary JOAN DOYLE says the ban amountsto discrimination.
To highlight their cause, about 50 counter staff have demonstrated outside Melbournecity's Australia Post shop.
Ms DOYLE says many of the workers have injuries or medical conditions which are aggravatedby hours of standing on the job.
She says the union believes the no-chair policy is really to to force out full-timestaff who are a bit older and have medical conditions.
An Australia Post spokesman says the stools were ergonomically unsound if used forlong periods, and posed a tripping hazard.
He says Australia Post is working on a case-by-case basis with the staff concerned.
