SA: Low level of concern about Y2K bug
ADELAIDE, Dec 16 AAP - Most South Australians were not worried about the Y2K bug and
would not make special plans, the state government said today.
Year 2000 Compliance Minister Wayne Matthew said a survey of 500 people found only
11 per cent were worried about computer-related problems as the date changes from 1999
to 2000.
Those people who were making contingency plans intended to hoard food, petrol, water,
candles, torch batteries and extra cash.
Asked to nominate service areas most likely to be disrupted, the most common answers
were security systems, banks, ATMs, airlines, electricity and fuel supplies.
Mr Matthew said the government was 99.6 per cent ready for Y2K and expected business as usual.
